Barker, who was also a tailor, had an extensive military career, serving in the American Revolutionary War until his retirement as Major General in 1808. Additionally, he held positions such as sheriff and alderman in Philadelphia. Barker’s contributions extended to the War of 1812, where he served on the city’s Committee of Defense.
